Here at ND SEND Specialists Ltd. we understand that some children and young people (CYP) simply cannot attend school.

Our trauma-informed Alternative Provision is designed to support and promote self-esteem and wellbeing, giving CYP the confidence to discover themselves, their aspirations and their abilities.

Our AP sessions can happen in school, or within the community. We understand that school-based sessions can be too much for some, so are always willing to adapt to what works for the individual. We work with schools and families to create bespoke, tailored 1:1 or small group (maximum of 5 pupils per group) sessions with a focus on developing self-confidence, self-esteem, building relationships and restoring trust in adults and staff associated with school. Our nurturing approach includes emotion coaching, trauma-informed practice, Total Communication and multi-sensory approaches as standard.

Alternative Provision: KS3/4

For secondary-aged children, we can offer the above, plus a focus on Preparation for Adulthood:

Skills for Life: School-based, hands-on, practical activities for small groups to work on individually or together (max. 5 pupils per group)

Skills for Independence: School-based learning for individual pupils or small groups (max. 5 pupils per group) to develop essential independence skills e.g. making simple meals; self-care; household tasks; financial responsibilities

Skills for Life: Community-based learning for individual pupils or small groups (max. 3 pupils per group) to develop essential life skills e.g. catching a bus; going shopping; visiting a cafe; making a health appointment; finding somewhere new

Skills for Work: Developing independent thinking skills in challenging but motivating ways e.g. small group (max.5 pupils per group) Enterprise Projects; Careers / destination support; Time management; Communication
